I ended up deciding that running cities wasn't worth it at the last possible minute. I needed to enter before 4pm on Friday and as the clock struck 4, I still hadn't entered.
Tuesday was an easy 5k in 25:01 @ 5:00 (142) and Thursday was 8k in 39:28 @ 5:05 (156). The stats of both runs indicated that I was moving pretty well however both runs were a struggle. I ran again at lunch on Friday as a last test to see if I was over the cold. The 10k in 46:52 @ 4:41 (No HRM) felt much better, but some wise words from inhisshadow helped me decide not to race. He commented that I have a pattern of racing after recovering from illness and the immune system takes 2 steps back resulting in further sickness.
As I dragged myself out of bed on Sunday, I knew I had made the right decision. I just needed an easy weekend at home.
I did get an interesting run in yesterday however. I headed up around Manly Dam. As I was half way round an enormous dark cloud enveloped me along with numerous strikes of lightning. I was in the middle of the bush and k's away from cover. The freezing rain poured down and the lightning struck around my head. I can safely say that I was petrified, one of the most scary 15 mins of my life. 16k in 1:25 @ 5:27 (154).
39k for the week.
I had a good think as I ran about the pattern of 2008, life, conflicting priorities and the running/triathlon goals that I have. It seems that the current level of thinking is not working and I may need to make some adjustments...

You certainly have had a challenging year! Fingers crossed that with some adjustments things settle down for you.
Sounds like a wise call not to run Cities.
Good luck with sorting out your priorities, I know its tough.
Good move not to start considering the recent cold.
Nothing wrong with 'adjustments'.
glad you survived mate. Also glad to see you scrapped Cities so you could concentrate solely on the main task at hand - C2S :)
Will be good to catch up with you! Ellie and Ben have kindly offered their digs close to the city - but I'm planning on coming down for Sydney Marathon with the fam - and will be planning on staying on your side of the harbour too!
Will keep in touch mate :)
Good to see you finally came to your senses buddy - your body will thank you for it
