Thanks for the overwhelming support to run Cities. It caused all of the vacillating to stop and I have committed to Cities - project "PB without training".
I struggled last week with training. The Half marathon effort took it out of me. I also had a busy week of work, celebrations (wedding anniversary, two family birthday's and a work function) and late nights (including watching Tour and British Open). I justified the lack of training by telling myself that I was in a taper, but it was bollocks, I was just tired and lazy.
Monday: 8k recovery run in 44:45 @ 5:35 (143)
Tuesday: Planned rest day
Wednesday: 15k commute to and from work in 43:28 (134) and 45:45 (134) respectively.
Thursday: Unplanned rest day ;-)
Friday: Another unplanned rest day ;-)
Saturday: 10k around city (had to work) in 48:33 @ 4:51 (156)
Sunday: Alex from trannies 10k @ 65% HR challenge. Done in 53:14 @ 5:19 (145). Exactly a minute slower than a month go *shrugs*
I started to have a sore throat/head cold on Sunday night. I think I am one of the sickest people in Australia. Nothing serious, so I have been desperately trying to rest, eat and drink well etc to try and shake it. Still not 100%. I will wait till Friday arvo before entering. I am not going to run if I am not 100% - I have done sixfoot AND Canberra this year at less than 100%, so I am just not going to do it again. I am frustrated yet hopeful. We will see how we go.
BTW - I got in touch with my long lost friend Simon the other day (gotta love facebook). He was an English tourist who I befriended after he rode from Perth to Sydney. We trained for our first marathon together. I found out that he is planning to row from WA to Mauritius only 2 years after learning to row - crazy bugger. His website is: http://www.amantomauritius.co.uk/

Hang on hang on hang on - how can you call Friday an unplanned rest day. I heard about you on Thursday night!
Oh and about that eat and drink well, might I remind you of your new years type resolution, evidence here

Finally - good luck with operation PB
I doubt you are one of Australia's sickest people - just someone with a young kid. I have a theory that parents eventually develop 'parental immunity' to anything their kids pick up. If the Mini Mango comes home with a cold, I get bronchitis. Mango - nada. Clearly I (and by the sounds of it you) haven't developed it yet!
So tell us about Thursday night? ;-)
He is crazy!
The "PB without training" plan worked for me at 6'. Just go for it (with good pacing), and imagine you've done the long runs.
Hope you're feeling less sick on the day.
