I am still considering doing Cities marathon and trying for a PB <3:18. I thought if there was any chance of this I needed a big week and something to taper from.
Mon – 10k Cahill run with IHS and Rich H
Tues – 14k run to work
Wed – 25k cycle around Nth Head – 3 loops done in apx 10:00 each lap (Archway now fixed)
Thurs – 5 x 1k reps with Hurts done in 3:35-3:45 pace. The guys did 1.2k reps. I just did 1k reps and walked the last 200m to ensure at least a minute rest.
Fri – 14k run to work
Sat – 10k easy to Shelley Beach
Sun – I had planned to do a 20k marathon paced section in my long run today. I then remembered that there was a Sri Chinmoy half on, down near Botany Bay. I thought it would be easier to do a marathon paced session in the midst of a race, so decided to head on down there. On the way down, I thought it was stupid not to race, so gave it a go. I was interested to see what shape I was in and hopeful of a PB. Great race, paced myself really well the whole way and kept to the 4:15 splits. Whilst it was flat, there was a double crossing of a big bridge x 2. The last 4k was really tough knowing that I had to give it everything I could to get the PB. I was stoked to make it by 15 secs! 89:23 Woo hoo! First PB since August 2007 and done without a taper - a real confidence boost.
All up 80k for the week and a 25k cycle.
Still not sure if I will run Cities – I change my mind everyday. I am wondering if it is worth running it when my training has been ordinary. I have only done 3 x 25k runs since Canberra in April. However, my marathon PB is 2 years old and I need to do something about it and won’t have another chance for the rest of this year.

Mate - go for it!
What's the worse thing that could happen? It will hurt, that's all. S*ck it up princess & go for it :-)
Nice work on the PB, that is fast stuff.
I know what you mean about Cities. I was doing the same thing, changing my mind evey day. (I think) I am going to wait for Sydney instead. But you should go for it. :)
Honking half PB off little training, reckon you should go for it too Chris.
I'll see you out there, well at the start anyhow :)
Go for it!
Nice one mate, what a great way to get a PB. Based off that effort you need to go and give it a crack at Cities.
Well done on the half PB. Don't forget to update your PB table ;)
You have a chance of a full PB, so why not? Going out in 96-7 should feel pretty cruisy - esp with that 1k -rep speed in your legs.
