Sore legs - and no wonder

I was really sore for all of this week post W2G. Just as much as any marathon I had done. I found it quite puzzling as it was on a trail and only 25k. Then I realised that other than the Great Nosh, it was the first hard long race I had done ALL YEAR! It was a surprising realisation. The only races where I have gone all out this year have been corporate cup (6k). I have done sixfoot and Canberra 50k but all done well within myself. Just goes to show what a good hard effort can do to your legs when they are not used to it - especially not doing any long runs.

Monday - planned a recovery run but just way too stiff - hobbled around all day.

Tuesday - 7k hobble around the city in 41:32 @ 5:56 (139)

Wednesday - Ride to (38:36) and from (40:59) work which is 15k each way. The cycling feels surprisingly good even though I have done next to nothing lately. The big month of May (570k) really had some good effect. The sore legs seemed to appreciate time on the bike as well.

Thursday - 4 x Gate to Gate (919m) with the HuRTS group done in 3:15 (177), 3:17 ( (176), 3:14 (176) and 3:21 (178) which is about 3:35 pace. With the warm and cool down it was 11k.

Friday - Easy run from Spit Junction to work. 7k in 37:55 @ 5:08 (149)

Sat - planned a ride but was really tired - 2 hour nanna nap in arvo.

Sun - 26k in 2:06 @ 4:54 (157) - 3 various loops around Manly/Shelley beach. Started off at 5 min k's for an hour and then did a 5k threshold section from 12-17k mark in 21:35 (4:19) and still maintained 5:00 min k's after that. Really good run.

51k for the week and 30k cycling. BTW Brick, I can safely say that there will be no 3:05 at Cities this year - but next year is another matter.

The first section of today's run was done running next to Mrs H and Cheeseburger on their bike. Cheeseburger fell asleep.

Nice recovery week!

I think cycling goes a heck of a long way to maintaining fitness when you can't run. So any goals for the second half of the year?

I think it's due to the downhills at W2G. Nice 26k.

Cute photo of the Cheeseburger - training sessions can be tiring.
