Woodford to Glenbrook

Monday - 10k cahill run in with inhisshadow Rich H and Christian. Quicker pace but felt good - 10k in 47:20 @ 4:41 (156)

Tuesday - rest

Wednesday - corp cup and there was three goals: 1) a PB 2) a fast point for the team and 3) win a bet. IHS gave me 45 secs for a week's worth of coffee. He ran before me but didn't tell me what he ran, so I just had to do my best. I felt good most of the way and was really disappointed to just miss out on goals 1 & 2 by 5 secs. The last 500m was terrible - simply ran out of puff. The Splits (against 23:35 goal) were:

1) 3:41 (169) - 1 sec down
2) 3:54 (181) - 5 sec down
3) 4:15 (186) - 5 sec down
4) 3:52 (184) - 2 sec down
5) 4:26 (185) - 8 sec down
6) 3:40 (186) - 13 sec down

Total 23:48 (182). Oh and BTW - I one the bet with about 20ses to spare.

Thursday - rest

Friday - Wooloomooloo run with inhisshadow - 14k in 70:05 @ 5:00 (154). This run showed that I am pretty fit - I haven't done this run in 70 mins with such a low HR before.

Saturday - Wallabies vs France and no running

Sunday - Woodford to Glenbrook 25k

After a late night, the Hamburglar family pulled ourselves out of bed and headed for the mountains. It was great to have someone to drop me off and pick me up so I didn't have to worry about trains and buses.

Having not done this race before and having no idea how to pace myself, I congregated amongst Tim, Horrie, Rod and Brick at the start. I figured these guys are around my pace and I can let them show me how to pace the ups and downs.

The gun went off and Rod was out of sight in about 1 min followed by Horrie. I tried to stay with Brick and then Tim however the pace was too hot and the HR was too high. Settled in around the Author, TallGeoff and Miss Z playing leapfrog before they moved ahead. Before long Mango cruised past as well. I wasn't too worried as I felt comfortable and ready to push on in the last half.

I really enjoyed the 2nd half and picked up TallGeoff, then Mango and we ran together for a while. We leapfroged Miss Z as she fixed her shoelace. I then cruised by Horrie and Brick (who was struggling with injury). All was going well and I had my head down to catch Tim when about 4k from home I got hit by a huge stitch which almost stopped me dead. I needed to stop and walk a couple of times. Brick caught me and we shuffled like a couple of wounded soldiers for a while before my stitch disappeared and I picked up the pace again.

I loved the grassy finish and was happy to finish in 1:54:59. Great run by Spud (who ran up before the start) and I was glad that I kept in front of him - just.

The Hamburglar family had a great day. Mrs H and Cheeseburger did some bushwalking before meeting up for some lunch, coffee and a chat with some CR's - probably the best experience my non-running family have had. Great event and really well organised. Well done organisers (and Action). I'll be back next year for sure.

Splits were:

5k: 22:08 (171)
10k: 26:19 - 48:27 (171)
15k: 23:01 - 71:28 (169)
20k: 20:25 - 91:53 (171)
25k: 23:06 - 114:59 (169)

June mileage was:

JAN: 292 (251)
FEB: 57 (268)
MAR: 239 (165)
APR: 96 (181)
May: 53 (183)
June: 176 (259)

YTD: 913 (1307)

So a better month, but due to sickness (again) still not great. Cycling was also down with just two rides totaling 131k.

Cycling YTD : 1284 (532)
Swimming YTD: 1 (0)

Must have all that cycling you did when you couldn't run ;-)

Lovely to catch up with you & A on Sunday. Yes, my backyard is alright ;-)

Nice work on the coffee bet too. Hope you are going to order the large size :-D

Sounds like you're coming into some form now mate, both on the shorter and the longer stuff. You're posting damn good times for someone who's hardly been running over the last few months. I reckon that the second half of the year is looking good for you! I've just realised that the fatass half ironman is only a week before Sydney Marathon so I'm an unlikely starter for the whole thing, but I may offer support for the first half and then join in for the run.

I'm off to Canada on Friday and back in 3 weeks - 24 July I think.

I agree, W2G is a good one.

Glad your fitness is kicking in - a weeks' worth of coffee is a great bet to win!

From Brick:

Mate you ran away from me like I was standing still.
I will seriously need to watch my back from now on as I think you are coming into your own.
And your PBs are just a little better than so maybe I should just try to keep with you on some runs.
M7/Cities is looking good for you mate.
I will be a short way behind you I think, maybe 3:10-3:15 for me if I get over this injury.

See ya out running soon.
Brick
