The good and the bad!

Whilst I ran a 3 second PB, I was disappointed not to go sub 40.

The legs (as always) felt a little heavy in the first few k's only to come good at about half way. I turned in 20.15, so I had some work to do. I crept up slowly on Horrie, passing him at about 6 k. Colin was 50m in front of him and I knew that if I could just catch him, he would bring me home however just as I would gain on him, he would move away again. Sub 50 provided some encouragement on the way in and I passed through 8k in 32:09. I felt confident that I had it in the bag. Then Horrie's Gorilla jumped on my back. I could only manage two 3:59 splits for the last 2 k, finishing in 40:07.

A PB was nice however this bloody sub 40 barrier is killing me!

It was great to see O Runner post results at 8:11am - amazing.

Stats were:

4.06
4.09 8:15 (167)
3.59 12:14 (178)
4.04 16:18 (183)
3.56 20.15 (185)
3.57 24:12 (185)
4.00 28:12 (187)
3:55 32:09 (187)
3.59 36:08 (187)
3.59 40:07 (188)

Average HR: 182

So close HB!
I was going to make the journey myself this morning and give 40 flat a shake after this weeks 18:54 5km but decided a slow 100mins would be better for sixfoot (plus i slept in anyway!)

Cheers R2B

LNice work on the PB - congratulations.

You will run faster after you get those 6ft hills into your legs ;-)

Probably one of only a handfull of runners who managed a negative split on Saturday Chris. Impressive splits, you'll smash it at North Head. Well done mate.

Great run mate - and that's how you should look at it. As you've found, if you get too hung up on these "round figure" barriers, it can be hard to finally break through.

Aim for 39.20 next time - I reckon it will help you no end :)
