3:18:34 today (and an 8:23 min PB) and I am pretty happy with that. This marathon was totally different to Canberra, as I was struggling most of the way. Went out with 3:15 pacer and dropped off at about 18k mark - I thought the train was going a little fast. Turned in 96 mins and faded with a 102 min second half. Stayed on 3:10 pace till 30k and then faded. last 12k in about 62 mins and last 6k in 33 mins. I was however really happy that the pace didn’t totally spiral and that I gritted it out to the finish.
A few highlights:
•Being passed by the eventual winner after 2k’s
•Running up Oxford street with the Sat night revealers.
•Seeing Uncle Dave with his CR hat flopping all over the place running his guts out.
•Running up the grassy knoll with Easy Tiger walking next to me
•The support – i.e. Wildthing on her bike, Action and co. at the turnaround , the circular quay cheersquad as well as the ING army on Macquarie St (It was better than an Ironman chute!)
It was a hot day and a hilly course, but whilst the legs are quite sore, it was very enjoyable and I’ll be back next year for sure.
