SMC Half Marathon

No Juniorburger yet. Waiting, waiting...

Firstly to answer some questions... I am no longer recording HR data because my HR monitor has died. Need to get a new one. Having withdrawal systems from lack of data. Regarding upcoming races, I plan just to train and race when I can through winter. I have entered SMH, will hopefully run Cities if all goes to plan and I have entered trailwalker. Other than that, the plan is to just race when I can. I have got the feeling life is going to be a little hectic in the coming months with two burgers to look after.

Mon - Rest
Tues - 10k around Anzac loop in 46:56 @ 4:54
Wed - Funny session along Hickson Rd - 3 x 1.725k reps in 6:40 (3:52), 6:27 (3:44), 6:40 (3:52). Not quite an Interval session paced run and not a threshold run.
Thurs - 10k Cahill expressway run in 49:28 @ 4:57. Feeling a little weary.
Fri - 8k around the city in 37:30 @ 4:44
Sat - Rest
Sun - SMC Half Marathon in 88:18 @ 4:09

I have been meaning to go out to SMC for ages but it never seemed to happen. The delayed arrival of Juniorburger left the family with a free schedule, so we decided to head out to Smithfield and found that it wasn't that far.

I printed out some splits for 90 mins but was quietly hoping for something a little faster (athough I really had no idea). The first km and the uphill surprised me as I thought the course was completely flat (don't know why I thought this). I struggled a little until 10k when some encouragement from Silver Fox seemed to spur me on. Felt strong on the uphill to the far turnaround and was just in front of 90 min pace. The last 5k was great and I was really feeling good, knocking out some 4 min k's on the way home. I finished in 88:17 by my watch and very happy. Not too far away from the PB.

Whilst not overly picturesque, the undulations make for a great course. The organisation is first class and everything just seemed to run like clockwork - easy rego, km markers, water bags inc. Gatorade, timing system, volunteers etc. - and all for $14. I think I will be back again.

An easy 7k recovery down to Manly on Sunday arvo with Cheeseburger in the pram finished off an easier week. That is if you call starting and stopping for plays in each park, stopping at bottlo for couple of VB's, stopping at the hot chip shop a proper run? At one stage, I had a can in one hand, with a bunch of chips in the other pushing Cheeseburger on the swing. What a bogan!

All up 64k for the week.

P.S. A couple of photos - beautiful day at Manly.

Mate, you are training the house down at the moment - keep it up. And most of all enjoy the impending arrival of Jr Burger, it will give me time to catch up to you again ;-)

Of course that's a run. Otherwise most of mine wouldn't count ;-)

So has the mysterious JB arrived yet??
