My foot was still quite sore the day after Monday's run. It felt pretty bad, so I deceided to give it a rest for a week. I got on the bike a couple of time including an enjoyable 60k (in 2:25 @ 24.6 - 149) on Saturday with Paul, but that's about it.
Work is really busy at the moment, and with the sore foot, my lofty Cities marathon training program is just not happening. I was frustrated. Not just my currnt situation, but the whole year so far. I decided to take the pressure/expectations off and tell myself just to chill out for a while. It isn't the end of the world. Sometimes it is good to get some perspective. Running is not everything.
Tried out the foot again this Monday - an easy 8k around the Opera House with inhisshadow. The actual run was great, the 8k done in 39:45 @4:58 (156) The foot was marginally better, but still pretty sore, especially toward the end of the run. It is funny, the pattern is that it hurts following the run and in bed that night. It hurts a little the next day and by the day after I can't feel a thing. The pain is pinpointed right on a particular spot on the top/inside part of the foot. I wouldn't have a clue, but I reckon it is a slight stress fracture. Who knows?
So have changed my focus back to the bike and have been out three times this week already. I am actually enjoying it and am pleasantly surprised that it seems I haven't lost much fitness at all in the last 4 months.
I did my normal 25k loop this afternoon including 3 laps of North Head. I did the 4.5k laps in 10:02 @ 27.1 (152), 8:56 @ 30.3 (165) and 9:02 @ 29.5 (166). I really pushed the last two laps which was over a minute faster than I had done before. I have decided that I am going to do a lot more faster sessions on the bike as well as in the pool this year. I now know I can make the distance - now it is about getting there fast! Will try the foot again later this week.

I think the only injury I've never had (touch wood) is a stressie so I can't help you there, but my fingers are crossed for you!
I completely understand the frustration that comes from injury and/or work pressures. Chilling is a good way to go. And now that you are a triathlete, you've got plenty of other sports to do :-D
HB,
Mate I hope your self diagnosis is wrong buddy. But as you say there is more to life aside from running - but what is i :)
Get thee to a sports doctor mate, for thou hast a stressie... (hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so - and don't think you can just rest it and it'll go away. Get it properly diagnosed and treated!) End of sermon. :-)

It could be the type of pain that indicates a coming stress fracture (before you get one). A lady (fast) I run with has had a stress fracture in the top of the foot.
If that's the case, despite Bruce's advice, it won't show up on a scan, so the doc might not be able to help much, besides advising rest.
Rest it now and you might only need a few weeks off running. If you're busy at work, it's a good time to lay low :)
