Legal cheating

I finally tested out the new wetsuit on Sunday and I couldn't be happier. I wanted to test it out in a rock pool before I went out into the open water so I could tell if it had much of an effect on my lap times - and it certainly did!

I headed down to Freshy and immediately felt much improved in the water. The wetsuit brings the legs to the surface and allows you to glide much more on each stroke. I couldn't believe it when I did the first 100m comfortably in 1:50. I have never swam 500m in less than 11mins before and the two 500m splits that I recorded were right on 10mins - happy days and a real confidence boost.

Monday was a tough 14k in the midday heat. Went out much too quick in the first half of the run and eased off for the second half - really stiffling heat and humidity. From memory it was 14k in 1:15 @ 5:18 (162). Another 2k in the pool Monday night - splits were 11:00, 11:20, 11:10 and 11:25.

This morning all my cycling buddies pulled out and left me on my own - it must be daylight savings and the early start. It was hard to get up but the sunrise (see below) was worth it. Headed out to Centennial Park to find that there was much less cyclists than last week - it was kind of eerie in comparison. I did 7 laps which is apx 26.5k in 51 mins @ 31.4km/hr. Not as fast as last week however there was no drafting this morning. All up 50k.

I don't know whether it is daylight saving or the build up of training, but I seem to be very tired in last couple of days. Just looking at the log, since making a comeback from Gastro, in 12 days I have done 17 sessions - 6 runs (64k) 5 rides (253k) and 6 swims (11.5k). Looks like I need to schedule a few rest days soon.

And BTW Mr G, there will be no name change of the blog. All this triathlon stuff is only a bit of fun, and is really just cross training for six foot!

Good to see you back into it after the gastro mate. The wettie makes a big difference, I remember the first time I tried one at the local 50m pool, was lapping a good 8 secs quicker.

Watch out Canberra!

Good to hear it's just X-training for 6' :) Now you need a pair of $2000 wheels for more legal cheating ;)

I would have loved a wetsuit. Just never got into tris enough to justify one.
