Catch up

Life post B2H has been interesting. It probably took over a month to recover from the run which just goes to show that it takes a low mileage runner much longer to recover. This fact was most evident when returning from the cox's river in the Megalong Mega which was 3 weeks after B2H. The run was going great and I spent most of it with Will the Frenchman. All was OK until we headed for home and I struggled badly and the legs were dead. I have never felt as bad after a run. Was dizzy, nauseous and hot.

The mileage has started to increase over the last few weeks and I am in the middle of my usual "cram for a race" (ie. six foot) routine. The last 6 weeks mileage has been 0, 7, 46, 31, 55 & 92. The plan is to have another big week this week and then taper. I have only had 1 long run since B2H, so another one is desperately needed this weekend.

I am actually quite happy with where I am at. The cruising speed is less than 5 min pace and not far off my best. I have been doing two speed sessions a week and the speed is slowly coming back. Corporate Cup has been done in 26:00 and then 25:15 (long way from PB of 23:30). I also had a good run at the Striders 14k Equaliser run through the bush on Sunday running 70:29 which was a 10 min PB from 3 years ago!

For the record, last weeks training was:

Mon - 11k in 56:52 @ 5:04 (159)- Anzac Bridge with the Author
Tues AM - 14k in 80:18 @ 5:46 (149) - Run to work
Tues PM - 6k in 30:00 @ 5:00 (151) - Around the City with inhisshadow
Wed - 5.9k in 25:15 @ 4:14 (177) - Corporate Cup
Thur - 8k in 39:25 @ 5:19 (150) - Spit Junction to work
Fri - 10k in 45:00 @ 4:30 (170) - Cahill with Lachlan
Sat - 20k in 2:07:42 @ 6:30 (145) - Chatswood to Home via Middle Harbour
Sun - 14k in 70:29 @ 4:59 (173) - Equaliser

I have also lost my job recently which was a bit of a bugger and am madly looking around for a new one. Not a great situation but it has been good for my running!

G'day Chris

looks like you've been just as slack as me with the blogging! Good to see you're still fit and training well though mate.

The 6th March holiday sounds great! I'll definitely catch up with you for a few things. We'll probably bring the kids down for a paddle in the lake at one point too so that'd be great for them to catch up.

And hey, you still have your road bike don't you? If you hadn't already planned on doing so, make sure you bring it up. I'll be out and about riding through Cathie most days - and best of all, we have a little Club race on the 8th March up at Port Mac. You definitely have to do this one - I promise you'll have a ball - just 500m/18km/5km, and a great one for the kids to come up and watch too

Look forward to catching up mate

Andrew

Ah cr*p. Sorry to hear about the job Chris. But I have to agree with you; not working has been great for me too when it comes to the training!

Glad to hear that the recovery from B2H has gone well. Fingers crossed for the rest of the lead up to Six Foot.

... but, bugger to hear about your job. I presume a down-sizing resulting from the credit crisis? Hope things are OK there at home and the job prospects are looking up.

Are you looking around my way? That'd be great, and let me know if there's anyone I can talk to up this way

Don't look too hard. Enjoy the life of a professional athlete for a while.

I know what you mean re the slow recovery if you haven't done much. That's what worries me about 6'. See you there!
