Top evening last night and a great event. Over 7,000 people turned up for this event in what is becoming a really big race. After a quick warm up jog I headed to the start with inhisshadow (who was a little nervous I must say). Just before the start I looked back and couldn't even see the end of the queue there was that many people.
I wasn't hopeful of a great run as the legs have been quite sore this week and in great need of a massage as there are knots and tightness everywhere. It is a brutal 1st 500m up a slight hill especially with cold muscles. I tried not to push it too hard up the hill, but the HR jumped well into the 180's. 1st k done in 3:43 and the second in 3:42. Fast but I wasn't feeling too bad. The next k was slightly down hill and was done in 3:38. I started to hurt at this point but was buoyed when thinking that I was more than half way there. 4th and 5th k's were done in 3:47 and 3:57. They seemed to go for ever. I was slowing and was definitely in the hurt zone as can be seen from the average HR (below). As I crossed the 5k mark, I realised that I had just done a 16 sec 5k PB (18:50). Crossed the finish line just in front of the 1st female in 21:20. Very happy with that.
3:43 (171)
3:42 (185)
3:38 (186)
3:47 (189)
3:57(190)
2:33 (189)
5.6k in 21:20 @ 3:46 (186)
Inhisshadow ran well for about 20:30. ING looks like we can 2nd in the boys and 1st in the girls. With the new rules that only one team can go to NY it will be interesting to see what happens. Inhisshadow was 5th and I was 6th, so we may be reserves for the trip to NY (you never know).
Had a good evening afterwards - a couple of sausage sangas and a few too many beers. Good to meet Tom 31 catch up with others.
Little dusty today so no training. It is turning out to be an even lighter week than planned due to different reasons, which makes me anxious with only 3.5 weeks to go till Canberra.

Fantastic run Burglar, all this 'tri' training is paying dividends. I know you'll nail Canberra
Awesome result HB - well done
Looking forward to catching up with you on Sunday for your first tri!!
That's good running - a pity you can't claim the 5k split as an official PB. I guess there's always the CR challenge or a track 5k.
A mate of mine went to NY when Price Waterhouse won. So, it's just one team this year, or a female and male team?
Wow ! That's a fast run. Seems your running performance has benefited greatly from ironman training.
