Went to the doctor last week and whilst he couldn't put his finger on exactly what was happening, he confirmed that I was experiencing many symptoms of a very low immunity. The reason for this is unclear at this stage. That being said though, he was happy re my changed lifestyle pledges i.e diet and alocohol. Going over my training log also gave me a clue as well: In the 23 days before I got sick I did 266ks of running and also some cycling/swimming - total of 32 sessions and no day off! The doc also discovered a syst on my tonsils and we don't know how long it has been there. It may be drip feeding bacteria into my body resulting in the immune system working overtime. The doc and I ageed for at least 7 days to have a diet high in protein/rabbit food, vitamins etc. no alcohol and at least 4 litres of water a day and rest as much as I can - i.e. no running at all.Whilst I agreed with all his, it meant I was to miss the Megalong Mega.
The good news is I am now feeling better. I had an easy return run at corp cup on Wed (26:xx). I was feeling much better at Shelley Beach on Friday night and thought I woud try and run ~20mins for the 5k. I took off much too quickly and each split was slower than the previous. Ended up with a 19:38. I am totaly extactic with this considering the total lack of running.
Splits were:
3:44
3:50
3:56
3:58
4:00
(+ 6 secs somewhere)
Had a great night with the CR/ING crowd - a swim, a couple of beers to break my drought and a BBQ to break my healthy eating pattern.
The plan for the next few weeks is to take it pretty easy and not get too serious about sixfoot training. You can say I have had a bit of a wake up call and will be looking after myself a little better from now on, so I don't think cramming for sixfoot is on the cards.Plenty of other races this year.

Mate - I am really happy to read this for
1 - You are looking after yourself with your diet, I'll convert you yet
2 - You are looking to be sensible with your training
3 - You have run a split which means you will be getting a fast point at the CC :)
Good to have you back mate
Glad things are looking up. 19:38 is excellent! You should give sub-19 a real crack this year.
Six Foot 'for fun' is the go. Same for me :)
Wise words, Grasshopper :-)
Eat better, rest more = run better!
Just 4 weeks to lots of fun :-)
Gnome
Wise move HB. Your body only lets you get away with such craziness for a little while. Unfortunately we don't always listen to its signals - well, I don't anyway ;-)
Glad to hear you are back on track!
Was disappointed not to catch you out at the Megalong Mega, but good to see it was in aid of a good cause. Enjoy the last few weeks, even the rest days!
Still got some speed there Chris, will we see you at 6FT?
